The Assignment:
The Dream - Using a variety of shots, illustrate a dream with incongruous and seemingly disparate components that clearly conveys an honest and personal fear or desire the maker of the project feels deeply.
Pedagogical objective: Explore the use of imagery and sound as a means of communicating one's own emotion.
Statement of intent: The fear or desire they are visualizing.
Notes: It is helpful to describe this exercise as a dream sequence within a fiction film designed to make an audience understand and feel viscerally a character's fear or desire. On this, and all subsequent projects, use of sound effects and music is encouraged. Music with prominent lyrics is discouraged, and on-screen dialogue is prohibited.
