This is the fourth video I have made for my FTV130 class Intro to Visual Storytelling.

Assignment:

Monologue Verite: Select a person you know with a dramatic story to tell who would be willing to do an on-camera interview. The person interviewed should be someone the student feels safe and comfortable with, but not be a current Chapman film student. First, pre-interview the person without a camera, honing in on one particular story that is dramatic and emotional. Then, after some time to review your notes, have your subject tell their story in a carefully chosen setting that speaks about the person and the emotional content of their story. The shot should also convey emotional meaning, but need only be a shot of the storyteller. No additional visual material is necessary. Edit, with jump cuts if necessary, the most dramatic and emotional telling of the story possible.

Pedagogical objective: Continue the visual expression of emotional states and explore dramatic narrative in verbal form, as well as the impact of genuine emotion.

Duration: Two minute maximum.

Statement of intent: Should be a professionally written logline of the story their subject will tell.

Notes: Two weeks should be dedicated to this project. In the first week, students must turn in their statement of intent for discussion in class, in the second they turn in the finished project. Students must also be encouraged to choose a "sound friendly" environment.
