A one minute film, which had to be about a decision.

I shot 40 minutes of film, and the rough cut was originally 2:10. I had to delete a scene, and more, to fulfill the minute requirement. It was written, storyboarded, planned, filmed, and edited in 3 days.

Assignment:

Moment of Decision - Shoot a character making a difficult and dramatic decision. Show that the character is faced with a predicament affecting their well being, visualize their process or consideration, and show that they have made a decision.

Pedagogical objective: Explore the visual expression of internal states in particular the articulation of a character's thought process without dialogue.

Duration: One minute maximum.

Statement of Intent: The character's predicament and decision.

Notes: This project will be easiest to visualize if hte students attempt a project in which their character must decide between two possible actions rather than merely changing an internal opinion. The use of the basic visual storytelling technique of combining POV shots with reaction shots should be explained and encouraged in the realization of this project.

Be very clear about what the decision is. Make decision difficult. Music OK.
