ALTERNATE VERSION WITH MORE NARRATION COMING EVENTUALLY

The film was made to fulfill 3 assignments. Here are the prompts for the 3 projects:

PROJECT #7 DESIRE/STAKES (100 Points) DUE 11-12

Description
Illustrate a character who longs for something he or she does not currently possess. Include what is at stake for the character if they do or do not obtain their desire. This assignment ends at the moment the character decides to take action.

Objective
Apply the visual expression of emotional states to the beginning of a classically told movie narrative in which an audience should invest in a character’s goal.
.
Statement of Intent: Describe the character’s desire and what is at stake for them emotionally if they do or do not get it.

Points To Remember
• As the first of a three part assignment, planning and preparation must be made for all three parts of the assignment.

• Use care when selecting cast and locations because they must also be available in subsequent weeks.

• You are encouraged to look back to your Monologue Verite' assignment for inspiration in the type of character and situation that you base these three exercises around.

• The goal is to make your audience want to see what happens next in your film.

Duration: One to two minutes

PROJECT #8 ACTION/COMPLICATION (100 points) DUE 11-19

Description
Building upon the material from the Desire/Stakes exercise, shoot, or re-shoot, and incorporate additional footage that shows the character taking an action to obtain their desire. Then illustrate an unexpected complication that the character meets after the action is taken.

Objective
Continue to explore the visual expression of emotional states in the beginning and now the middle of a classically told movie narrative in which an audience should invest in a character’s goal, and relate to the character’s struggle to get what they want.

Statement of Intent: Detail the character’s actions to obtain their desire and what complicates or escalates the stakes for this pursuit.

Points To Remember
• You are strongly encouraged or required to rework material from the previous assignment if it is not building them toward a successful completed movie.

• Your goal is to make the audience want to see how the story will turn out.

Duration: Three to four minutes, including previous footage.

PROJECT #9 CLIMAX/RESOLUTION (150 points)

ROUGH CUTS12-05 FINALS DUE 12-12

Description
Now building upon the material from both the Desire/Stakes and the Action/Complication exercises, shoot, or re-shoot, and incorporate additional footage that brings the conflict to a satisfying climax: the moment of highest tension in which the character will either completely succeed or completely fail in obtaining their desire. Then show the resolution to the conflict.

Objective
Continue to explore the visual expression of emotional states in the beginning, the middle, and now the end of a classically told movie narrative in which an audience should invest in a character’s goal, relate to the character’s struggle to get what they want, and because of their involvement with the character, reach a cathartic moment in the movie’s climax.

Statement of Intent:
What exactly your audience should be hoping and fearing in the climactic moment.

Points To Remember
You are strongly encouraged or required to rework material from the previous assignments if it is not currently building toward a successful completed movie.

Duration: Four to five minutes, including previous footage.
